Artist's Bio

Paula Jacobi holds a law degree and a Ph.D., neither of which contributed to advancement in her art. They did offer opportunities for interesting employment that helped support her early artistic endeavors. After working briefly in law firms in Louisiana and California, she spent many years  in a demanding position at Louisiana State University.  She is now retired however, and happy to devote herself to her art.
Paula began painting in 1992, when an LSU art professor, Joanne Quilman, encouraged her to participate in University art classes. There she learned the basics of drawing and painting. Since that time, she has participated in workshops, and continued her independent study of art, with a focus on American and European Realist and Impressionist painting. She works in oils, pastels, and acrylic. She has also participated in several classes and workshops. A workshop with Pam Ingalls, an artist well known for her Russian Impressionist style, was a huge motivator to continue to change and further develop her artistic style.
Today, in addition to many portraits and other paintings in private collections, she has two commissioned paintings displayed in public entities in Louisiana. One is hanging in the historical 27th Judicial District Courthouse in Opelousas, Louisiana, and the other has been adopted for use in a logo for the Jefferson Parish Child Protection Agency.
Paula is a member of the Louisiana Art and Artist Guild. Prior to her recent move to Mandeville, her paintings were on display at two Louisiana galleries. Her art was accepted in the 2011 LAAG Annual River Road Competition, a national juried show. She has received several awards for her paintings, including a first place award in portraits and figures in the 2011 Capital Area Juried Art Competition.
